Why was the 2015 Calendar Selected and Approved?
Thank you the 424 Total Participants (students, parents, staff, community) who participated in our Calendar survey. This data was used to formulate the 2015-2016 calendar which the SOTO BOE approved this week. The calendar will become official after a calendar hearing at the BOE meeting in March.
Here are some of the important facts coming out of the survey....
  1. 1. Faculty/staff and parents were equally split regarding full week spring break and two mini-breaks. The student and community respondents indicated a preference for two mini-breaks.

    2. The first mini-break is a five-day weekend around Easter. All days are “protected” from use as snow day make-ups. The Wednesday of this weekend is the compensation day for parent/teacher conferences.

    3. In order to have a full day of PD in October (an improvement adopted in an effort improve pace and ensure there is time for teachers to integrate what they learn into lesson designs), there is one less contracted day BEFORE school starts this year.

    4. The teacher PD/workday on January 4 was captured by starting school on Tuesday, which was a compromise suggested by the calendar committee
